All,
Another day of the 2025 NCAA Tournament and another day of chalk, with Two #1 seeds and two #2 seeds moving on to the Elite 8. The win was anything but convincing for top seeded Houston, who barely held off Purdue to survive. The Boilermakers were trying to remind everyone that they were no Cinderella - finishing as the national runner up just last year. But the Cougars made the Executive Decision to uncork an inbounds play that was definitely Milky Way* adjacent and gave them the lead as the game closed. Meanwhile, Michigan State struggled early, trailing by as many as 10 in the first half to #6 seed Mississippi. Ultimately, the Spartans completed a comeback and held the Rebels off to make it to the weekend.
In the Pool of 42, Catherine Bopp has returned to glory, taking over the top spot. Her scoring is mostly done for the year, though, with no teams remaining and no bonus teams. Will her lead be enough? Larry Kriz is also drawing dead in second place and there just aren't enough games left for him to "73" his way to the top. Joan Ganton, with Michigan State, or Charles Santanna with the Spartans and Houston could find their way to the top of the leaderboard.
At the low score, Adam Hudnut-Beumler externded his dominance. WIth three teams still remaining, though, he could either widen is margin or come crashing up with some low scoring affairs. Some interesting things could happen if Alabama scores exactly 74 points - as Dave Petit would come down and Adam would go up with a massive 148 point swing in one game. Donald DeCaro, and Eileen Rosa are the next ones up that will be looking to jump in the lead. Some of these guys are consistent bottom score contenders. An interesting strategy - but hey, If It Makes You Happy, go with it!
In the other prizes, Will Sargission has filled his bonus point thermometer and is the new leader in that category. Longtime pool member Mavis Mai is currently closest to zero with 11.6. Bill Lynch's actual team points continues to lead the pack, while Meri "mom" Schreiber is currently in the seat perilous, directly in the middle. Opportunities still abound for refunds within the category leaders - and don't forget about the mystery prize, with details coming soon.
Overall, 15 entrants in all have 3 teams still remaining, while 137 of 157 have at least one still dancing.
Current scores are below with complete standings attached.

* For those of you who missed out on seeing a girls travel basketball team fail to run their set inbounds from under the basket play for six straight years (which they lovingly dubbed "Milky Way") you are really missing out
